Headstory: Your guide to prioritizing AI opportunities

In the last edition, you took the first step—spotting AI opportunities in your business. The process started with identifying tasks that were repetitive, data-driven, predictive, or creatively demanding. These tasks were your starting point. But now comes the real challenge: how do you prioritize them? Because identifying possibilities isn’t enough. You need a plan to sort the game-changers from the distractions.

Let’s set the scene. AI isn’t just a trend; it’s a seismic shift in how businesses operate. Did you know that 95% of routine marketing tasks can already be automated with AI? That’s not future talk—it’s happening now. Companies like McKinsey & Company have slashed onboarding lead times by 90% using AI. These aren’t just tweaks; they’re transformative changes. But not every task is an immediate win. Some ideas shine bright but need time. Others might be easy to deploy yet lack meaningful impact.

Enter the AI Value Proposition Matrix, a simple framework to help you prioritize opportunities based on value and feasibility. It’s not just a tool; it’s your blueprint for action.

Your compass for AI success

Picture this: a simple two-by-two grid. On one axis, value. On the other, feasibility. Here’s how it works:

  • High value, High feasibility: These are your quick wins. Implement them now. They’re the low-hanging fruits that can yield immediate results.

  • High value, Low feasibility: These are strategic plays. Worth pursuing, but they’ll require more time, resources, or tech readiness.

  • Low value, High feasibility: Easy wins, but their impact will be limited. Use these to build momentum.

  • Low value, Low feasibility: Tasks to set aside for now. Focus your energy where it counts.

By mapping your tasks onto this matrix, you gain clarity. Clarity leads to action. Action leads to impact.

Turning strategy into action

So how do you start? Follow these steps:

  1. Take your list of tasks: Focus on the tasks you identified previously.

  2. Assess value and feasibility: For each task, consider:

    • Value: Does it drive revenue? Boost efficiency? Enhance customer satisfaction?

    • Feasibility: Is the tech accessible? Are costs manageable? What about the timeline?

  3. Prioritize and plan: Focus first on high-value, high-feasibility tasks. For high-value, low-feasibility opportunities, develop a phased approach.

  4. Engage your team: AI adoption isn’t a solo journey. Collaborate with departments to uncover hidden opportunities and address potential resistance.

This is where the work begins. For one high-impact task, dive deeper. Research tools, test them, and refine your approach. Small steps can lead to big outcomes.

Because here’s the thing — while it’s tempting to daydream about what AI might bring in 2025, there’s plenty of AI magic ready to transform your business today. Right now. By simply taking the time to plot your tasks on the AI Value Proposition Matrix and tackling just one high-impact opportunity, you’ll see firsthand how AI can transform the way you work, think, and create.

Don’t wait for the new year to start reaping the benefits. Use the next two weeks to reflect, prioritize, and experiment. The future isn’t "what’s next"—it’s what’s now.

OpenAI o1-full mode rollout and a wave of new features

TL;DR

OpenAI has officially launched o1, a key moment in their 12 days of updates. This enhanced model is faster, smarter, and excels in coding, math, and writing. Among the new features: image uploads, advanced video generation, and Canvas—a collaborative tool for writing and coding. ChatGPT now integrates into Apple’s ecosystem, while Advanced Voice Mode gets "eyes" with vision capabilities. You can also chat with ChatGPT on WhatsApp, bringing the AI closer to everyday communication. Developers benefit from API updates, fine-tuning tools, and new SDKs, ensuring a more streamlined and customizable experience.

Read it yourself?

Sentiment

Excitement buzzed when OpenAI teased its 12 days of updates. Speculation swirled online about potential new features and tools. With the arrival of full mode o1 and updates like Sora, enthusiasm surged. The "projects" feature is a practical addition, but for some, the updates don’t feel groundbreaking enough. There’s hope OpenAI might end the streak with a big announcement, leaving the community eager for more.

My thoughts

Earlier this year, OpenAI released Sora, a groundbreaking video model at the time. But today, its dominance is debatable. Features like Santa Mode or ChatGPT on WhatsApp are fun additions, yet OpenAI isn’t the only player offering such capabilities. Of course, the full o1 mode is brilliant—a model with reasoning skills approaching an IQ of 130 is revolutionary. But everyone is waiting for their agents. Combining agents with full o1 mode could redefine the AI landscape and set a new standard. The question is whether OpenAI will take that leap, edging closer to AGI territory. That would be next-level innovation, unmatched in today’s AI space.

‘The Google comeback’ with Gemini 2.0

TL;DR

Google has launched Gemini 2.0, a new AI model that integrates agent functionality with multimodal capabilities. Think real-time vision, deep research, and enhanced integrations within Google Search and other products. With Gemini 2.0 Flash, users can benefit from faster and more efficient AI assistants, while prototypes like Project Astra and Project Mariner further explore the potential of agents.

Sentiment

People are going crazy online. Normally, OpenAI steals the spotlight from Google when either of them releases something new, but this time it’s the other way around. What’s the value of a dozen flashy features if Google drops something like this? People are raving about the real-time vision, agent functionality, and deep research option. Some even claim that many parts of their work can now be done seamlessly—and just as effectively—by Gemini.

My thoughts

Google was the odd one out for a while, criticised heavily for Bard’s underperformance. Gemini was decent but not good enough. And now, in just six months, the narrative has completely flipped. What I find fascinating about Google’s approach is how everything seems interconnected: their agent, real-time vision, better AI model results, and deep research. OpenAI, on the other hand, appears to have standalone products that can work together but feel less intertwined. Also, the lack of agent functionality in OpenAI, while it is on the way, makes Google position itself as a true competitor. And that’s going to be interesting. OpenAI will undoubtedly respond. But how?

More byte-sized breakthroughs:

  • Next-level video and image generation with Google’s Veo 2 and Imagen 3
Google has launched Veo 2 and Imagen 3, taking video and image generation to new heights. Veo 2 delivers cinematic, high-quality videos in up to 4K resolution, capturing real-world physics and the nuances of human expression. Meanwhile, Imagen 3 generates sharper, more vibrant images across diverse art styles. Both tools, now available in VideoFX and ImageFX, are helping creators and businesses bring their boldest ideas to life.

  • Browse the web with AI by your side with Microsoft Copilot Vision
Microsoft introduces Copilot Vision, the first AI that browses the internet alongside you in real time. Available in Microsoft Edge, Vision can analyse pages, offer insights, and simplify tasks as you explore the web. Whether it’s planning a trip, comparing products, or learning something new, it’s like having a second set of eyes guiding you. Privacy is key—Vision is entirely opt-in and your data is handled securely.

  • Google’s breakthrough quantum chip named ‘Willow’
Google’s Willow quantum chip is redefining the future of computing. It completed a computation in under five minutes that would take today’s fastest supercomputers longer than the age of the universe. By reducing errors as it scales, Willow unlocks possibilities scientists have pursued for decades. When combined with AI, AI models could learn faster, analyse complex data better, and tackle challenges like creating new medicines or cleaner energy.
